Our Story

Anam Cara House Colac is a tranquil rural retreat set in spacious grounds, offering a choice in care for people of all ages who are living with a long term or life-limiting illness.

In true meaning to its Gaelic name, ‘Soul Friend’, Anam Cara House Colac provides physical, spiritual, emotional and social care for guests and their families. In a home-like environment, guests are offered specialised care that is focussed on the ‘care of the soul’, incorporating the needs of both the patient and their families. The notion of ‘soul care’ is the essence of what created Anam Cara House Colac and is at the heart of their hospice care.

Anam Cara House Colac underpins home care by providing respite for loved ones to give their carers a break, or short term care for those without a carer at home. Anam Cara House Colac supports guests, carers and families at a challenging time in their lives.

Anam Cara House Colac has been established as the result of one of the largest community fundraising and donor initiatives in South West Victoria’s history. Attesting to the recognised need for just such a “home-like” respite care facility.
